The “Business Cycle” refers to the fluctuations in economic activity that an economy experiences over a period of time. It consists of periods of economic expansions (growth) and contractions (recession) and is measured using the rise and fall in gross domestic product (GDP). In South Africa, the business cycle is monitored by the South African Reserve Bank.
