A “Stock Buyback”, also known as a share repurchase, is a practice where a company buys back its own shares from the marketplace. This reduces the number of outstanding shares, often with the intention to increase the value of remaining shares, distribute surplus funds to shareholders, or prevent other shareholders from taking a controlling stake.
