“Bearer Bonds” are a type of bond that is not registered in the name of the owner. Instead, the holder of the physical bond certificate is deemed the owner. This means that whoever physically holds the bond, is entitled to the coupon payments and the repayment of the principal. They were commonly used in South Africa but are now largely obsolete due to the risk of loss or theft.
